Big Steps
A downloadable VN for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android
Work as a freelance photographer can be a challenge, especially when your assignment involves helping an enthusiastic bear chase after a 40-metre-tall monster. He’s convinced he’s got a solution to help people live in harmony with the giant beasts that menace their homes. You’re just hoping you can make it home without getting stepped on.
A silly romance drawing affectionate inspiration from 20th century Japanese suitmation kaiju films, Big Steps is a short story created for the NovemBear 2024 Furry Visual Novel Jam. All assets were created during the month of November 2024.
Artwork by MakoOtter. Music by ForsetiFox. Written and coded by NoteYote.
Big Steps contains references to sexuality. The main story has no on-screen nudity, but the game does include an optional NSFW bonus scene. It is intended to be read only by readers over the age of 18.

The premise of this story is very interesting. A photographer goes with a kaiju-chaser to take a picture of a kaiju.
SPOILERS
The premise alone is a very good hook, and it kept me interested throughout the story. The characterization of Donovan was a cartoony kind of greedy evil, which was fun.
Haruo was also an interesting character to read about a cartoony nerd obsessed with Kaijus. He was also a fun character to read.
My main issue is with the car-crash scene.
While it’s not impossible to be mostly unharmed from one, I feel there wasn’t enough weight put onto the gravity of that.
A big part of that issue is the kiss. It feels unwarranted here.
Haruo just crashed the car, and while he may need motivation, it doesn’t feel right or romantic.
If it was right after they touch Gorogon though, now THAT feels like a good place emotionally to kiss. Where they just executed a risky plan and succeeded.
Overall, a very interesting story!
I need pics of Goro-Kun's cock on my desk by monday!
That was the best of the novembear Jam IMO
this is a really cute game, and hahaaaa I saw the funny little background details in the newspaper thing in the corner
